lyrica addiction http://www.drugaddictiontreatment.com/types-of-addiction/prescription-drug-addiction/lyrica-addiction/ Confession Time: I  swore to myself that this would be the project where I did not buy any more yarn. I would only use what I had. After all, didn’t I already own almost every color of Malabrigo’s worsted merino? I steeled myself against even considering it. But when I began to run out of the Polar Morn some action had to be taken.  Sure I didn’t want to buy any more yarn but the PolarMornwas special.  image It was the only grayish color I had and  there was no luck finding a substitute. I realized I planned to use it in almost every motif . Gosh darn. I had no choice. Reluctantly-my hands shaking in anticipation, I entered The Webster’s online site to order PolarMorn. I never specifically planned to check out the other Malabrigo colors. Well, maybe just a quick peek in case I might miss something really important. Uh-oh. They had Glazed Carrot in stock. I’d been trying to find that for eons. And let’s...

Patchwork Crochet Afghan Tutorial

For the past few years I’ve been toying with the idea of using quilts as inspiration for crocheted afghans. It started with some art quilts designed by the fabulous fiber artist Eleanor McCain. There was something about the shapes and colors that drew me deeper and deeper into these quilts. I was itching to translate them into gorgeous crocheted afghans. The color combinations fascinated me. At first they seemed out of step, disjointed, wrong somehow. Nothing really matched in the traditional way you might expect. But the repetition of the cross patterns carried my eyes in that triangle pattern good art is supposed to have, taking me and further into the beautiful detail of the quilts. It was hard to take my eyes off of them. I knew I wanted the motifs to be quirky and artsy.  The design is about having fun. It’s all about letting yourself go with color by using colors you never used before or even colors that scare you a little bit. I am excited about...

How To Juice a Prickly Pear & Why You’d Want To

I was astounded to find out that Superior, the little mining town where I live, is the prickly pear capital of Arizona. Who knew?  I took for granted the giant prickly pear cacti in almost every yard and desert area in town. I thought it was like that everywhere. But no. We have a special abundance of  prickly pears  and I was determined to uncover the secrets of these gorgeous fuschia colored desert fruits. What it is: Cactus fruit or prickly pear fruit refers to the thorny red fruit that grow on cactus. How it tastes: Cactus fruit has a taste similar to raspberries or watermelon, with a slight bite like kiwi fruit. The fruit is filled with small seeds which make it grainy to the tongue. Tips: Be careful when harvesting or preparing this fruit. Just like its parent, it’s covered   Prickly Pear Festival Superior celebrates the 3rd Annual Prickly Pear Festival On Aug. 23 (2014) the historic copper mining town of Superior hosts its 3rd Annual...

Strange Safari: Welcome to My Hood

Strange Safari: Welcome to My Hood

Greetings. This is my tiny house on West Magma Flats Street in Superior, Arizona. It’s a very short street that only goes about a half of a block and then dead ends. We like that because there is virtually no traffic. The neighbors are an unexpected mix-we have some very cool artsy intellectual neighbors, a couple of hipsters, sweet Raoul who defies definition, the tweakers, a few other quirky individuals and a very nice lady at the end of the block who appears to be completely normal. Of course, looks can be deceiving. One of our most notable neighborhood characters, Mitchell Brown, died about a month ago. Our loss is great and he will be missed. My yard is filled with rocks. My friends Doug and Debbie stayed here for awhile last fall. Debbie is an avid rock collector who really knows her stuff. I, of course, having lived most of my life in Chicago, do not understand why anyone would give a shit about a rock. Over time...

The End Is Near

The End Is Near

My dear friends and comrades, today we are witnessing the death of the once vibrant, often brilliant street art movement. Some of you may have noticed a seemingly innocuous teeny tiny message at the bottom of your Google page today. It’s hard to notice because your eyes are naturally drawn to the large colorful animated drawings related to the World Cup. The tiny message announces: New! From the streets to the web: dive into street art with Google. Okay. No big deal. Or is it. If you click on this link you’re directed to a very slick very glossy interactive website that has been designed by what google describes as The Google Cultural Institute. Okay, if that doesn’t make your blood run cold, this should: Google has prepared a map of the world(even Australia and NZ)-yes I said the world-pin pointing the location of every street art installation known to mankind or at least to The Google Cultural Institute. There you can view videos of street artists being interviewed...

Bottle Cap Art: No Cap Left Behind

Bottle Cap Art: No Cap Left Behind

My love affair with bottle caps began one magical summer on the shores of Crystal Lake Michigan. Those were the glorious days when soda came in frosty glass bottles. A little store near the cottage my parents rented sold ice-cold soda out of a slider cooler.                                               The cooler was filled with what looked (to a ten-year old) like an endless number of exotic flavors. There were sodas with names like Green River, Creme Soda, Yoo Hoo chocolate, Nehi Grape and even fizzy strawberry and tantalising raspberry. Each flavor had its own track so you picked your soda and pulled it along the rack and up through the vending gate. The cooler had icy water in the bottom so your bottle always dripped a little when you pulled it out. A bonus on a hot day. The whole process was quite thrilling as I remember it. Now the strange thing was that despite a bottle opener and cap catcher attached to the...
